The scene where the machine-snake sucks out blood from mildred and putting new and fresh blood into her was the most memorable setting for me. When Mildred tries suicide, the two men from emergency center comes and replace her poisoned blood. The author reveals self hatred and deep saddeness within Mildred by this incident. However, her rotten spirit with misery does not get replaced and Mildred shows her emptiness through out rest of the story.
I thought this was very significant setting, because Mildred represent the people living in that world and their empty lifestyles filled with the desolation.

Agree! That machine-snake was just unforgettable to me too! It's very scary how technology can improve just like in the story. One machine fixes all!
I wonder why Mildred was so desperate to suicide. Don't you think so too? I mean she has a husband who earns money for her. She also gets to watch television and chat with her friends all day! What can be better than that? Because of this, I think Mildred was secretly interested in books too after noticing the emptiness in her life: a missing gap. I bet when Montag brought books to his house, Mildred acted as if she's scared of them, but actually thought 'maybe that's the missing gap.' You never know, maybe she tried to suicide because she couldn't control herself from her eagerness to read books?
p.s. I think you mispelled desolation as "desolution." :]
I agree. A machine can save people' live by changing blood. This can never happen in the real world, so it was very distrubing incident to me.
However, what the doctor said was more disturbing. He said he had experienced saving people who had committed suicide several times. This meant that people in this book dissatisfy with their life while their says they are happy and smiles each other The fact that most of people are hypocritical was very diturbing to me.
thanks for your thoughts!
I really appreciate it:-)!
And yes, I wonder why Mildred tried to suicide, even though she has this "peaceful" life. Or was it too peaceful that she couldn't bear anymore?
I also indeed found this passage very disturbing, but also scary.
How can a person ever get used to the death?
P.S. Oops, I made a spelling error! Thanks!
Ooh, yes! Rather graphic but tremendously entertaining. Mrs.Mc.
