After reading the Fahrenheit 451
As I am very interested in scientific-fiction books, I chose this book among others without any hesitation and I do not regret my choice.
This book was very challenging for me to read as the author had very different view about the world than me. While I looked at the human deveopement in positive way, the author described it with fearful machines controlling us.
Also, this book gave me many questions to think about. For example, the murder of Captain Beatty by Montag left me question of "Does knowledge worth human life?"
Other than that, I realized how much I depend on modern technologies and how many simple things I can not do by myself without any help from machines. Even when I am doing the simplest calculation in math, I do it with calculator and I began to lose confidence in myself.
I also realized that idea of being equal while neglecting one's unique characteristic can be dangerous idea, which is very similar to the communism.
In the end, the book was so vivid and realistic that I fear it would be prediction of our future.

Same thought! I also realized that I was depending on technology more than myself after reading this book. We always use computers, cellphones, mp3, etc. Even if I have to look up for a SINGLE word, I use my computer, although a dictionary is right in front of me! We really need to try to change our habits, for the prediction of the author might come true. By the way,you misspelled development.

Didn't you read the book twice?? Anyways the book was ok I mean it wasn't that flattering but it sometimes made me smile Not in a bad way but like because it was interessting. When I first read this book, I didn't know it was a science fiction. I just thought it was fiction. Later on I noticed it was science fiction. Im not a fan for science fiction,but this time was ok. This book was interessting the way it always make you think why Montag did this or that or why people... etc. And it never stop popping out questions.
As i read your entry, i found out that i had some similar feelings and questions aroused me to think more about the true meaning of real knowledge that we thought and think it is ultimate true and just in our world. Mm... i didn't know you think different than what the author thought about the world, and i think soon the technology will be developed and overcome the human. As the technology improves, we human will depend on the technology for the daily works. Yes, I do feel stupid when I cannot solve a math question and uses the calculator to solve the question.
I'm not that interested in science fiction, but this book was quite interesting. Sometimes I got confused where i was in the book and that was kind of annoying. However I though that the story's theme was pretty good. I think it's okay for humans to depend on modern technologies unless they don't get addicted to it. It was fun reading you opinion:)!
I have to seriously disagree with you about this (we had this debate in class too. Heehee.) I'm not interested in science-fiction books to begin with, and on top of that, I really didn't like Ray Bradbury's writing style. However, I agree he had a very interestin view of the world. I don't think I can imagine a world where we are totally overrun by technology and let books fall to the wayside, even though the world has become more dependent on technology these days. We shouldn't depend on technology so much, but I think all this technology makes us even more aware how important books are.
I'd have to completely agree with Inhye on this and disagree with what you said. (I was a little part of that debate, haha) I just feel that this book bored me and kind of left me hanging at a lot of parts. I usually enjoy the sciencefiction genre, but this whole dystopian thing seems to have killed that curious "feel" I get when reading books that take place in the future. I think it's interesting how he represented the world's fast techonological take-over with the complete rejection of books. I guess books are as old-fashioned as it gets!
